Jay’s already retired once, now he should retire for good

This Leno/Conan thing is bothering me, and I finally figured out why. It’s obvious. Leno left The Tonight Show and gave it to Conan. Now it’s Conan’s show. Then Jay went and did his 10:00 show, which didn’t get a significant audience and then got canceled. Now he should go away, lick his wounds, and regroup, just like everyone else who has a canceled show. If he wants another show, then he should figure out a way to get another show, like have a new idea. He shouldn’t be allowed to go back to his old show. That’s over for him. The torch has been passed.

I think that part of this story that I’m reacting to is the implied rule set of this game that are being broken.  What Jay is doing is cheating.  For example, once you fold your hand of cards in poker, you can’t get into a later round of betting.  A Supreme Court Justice wouldn’t be allowed to retire from the court, and then a few years later decide to get his or her seat back (taking the seat away from his or her successor). That’s not the way the game works.

Jay’s had his run, he’s said goodbye. He willingly gave The Tonight Show to someone else, and now he needs to stand behind his decision.

Ramping up the distribution

I’ve been ramping up my marketing of the new album, “Christmas and Glowsticks”.

It’s always a waiting game when you send your album off to get posted on all the digital download sites.  The sites cover themselves by saying that it could take up to eight weeks to get listed.  It took my album around three weeks to get listed on iTunes.

Also, included with my distribution package is a bunch of other distributors that probably won’t result in any sales.  I’ve read that there is a “big five” distributors, which are iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, Napster, and AmazonMP3, and as long as you’re on those sites, you’re okay.  The problem is that some of these sites don’t allow you to search their catalog without signing up with their service.  This makes it tough to figure out if your album is being listed on their site.

However, now that the album is available, it means I have to also ramp up the marketing.  So, I’m experimenting with google adwords and facebook ads.  Most of my research says that google is far more effective than facebook ads.  We shall see.

I’m doing a lot of ramping.
